Kubernetes hands-on

2 Days

Dates and Booking

Container technology has established itself for the operation of scalable and resilient applications. In this training course, you will learn about the technical background and concepts behind Docker and Kubernetes, the reasons behind their success - and how you can benefit from them.

The training is divided into two learning sections of six hours each, spread over two days. Each learning unit is reinforced with practical exercises throughout. Apart from a web browser, no other “resources” are required - all exercises take place in a provided cloud environment.

The first day is all about the container. What does it consist of? How does it interact with its environment? What do I need to do to make my application suitable for operation in a container? Get to know the basic concepts of containers and prepare yourself for managing container landscapes with Kubernetes. The basic concepts for daily work are clearly presented and practiced. Starting with pods, services, deployments and ingresses, we move on to concepts for downtime-free deployments and advanced mechanisms for dynamic traffic routing.

Agenda

Day 1

  • Basic concepts of containers
    • Components of containers
    • Interaction with the environment
    • Optimize applications for operation in containers
  • Manage container landscapes with Kubernetes
    • Concepts
    • Downtime-free deployments
    • Dynamic traffic routing

Day 2

  • Secure management of configuration and secrets
  • Logging, monitoring and tracing
  • Tools from the Kubernetes ecosystem (Helm, Argo CD, …)

Your Benefits

In-depth understanding of container technology in order to be able to make the connections

Ability to weigh up the benefits of using container technology in an individual context

Be directly operational thanks to hands-on expertise and knowledge of the tools widely used on the market

Audience

Developers and architects who want to gain practical experience in working with container technologies. Basic knowledge of Linux is an advantage, but not essential for understanding.

Training Objectives

Understanding why containers were invented and why they have enjoyed a meteoric rise.

Ability to work productively in projects that use containerization and to support decision-making processes regarding the use of container technology.
